Second Harvest Food Bank
Second Harvest Food Bank is continuing to carefully monitor the information provided by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, California Department of Public Health, and the San Joaquin County Public Health Services regarding the spread of COVID-19.
If you are in need of food assistance, here is a listing of our food pantries in each city. Please call your desired food pantry for a complete listing of days and times that food distribution will take place. We recommend calling ahead of time to help conserve on gas and save you frustration if they are not open.
Monterey County Food Bank
The Food Bank for Monterey County began way back in 1983 as a program for the Alliance on Aging before becoming its own nonprofit in 1990. If only hunger were a thing of the past – but it’s not, and thankfully we have the food bank doing crucial work to mitigate it. The organization has expanded over the years so that now it serves 10 million pounds of food a year – to 20 percent of this county’s residents. The food bank took a hit in 2015 when an arsonist set its loading dock ablaze, but just this past December, the group moved into a new and bigger location, where they even have a nutrition training center. Let’s hope this community resource continues another 30 years.
Emergency Food Bank
Emergency food assistance is available to San Joaquin County resident households once per calendar month. To receive emergency food assistance, please bring current photo identification with proof of address in San Joaquin County. If ID is not current, you must bring an additional document showing proof that you live in San Joaquin County (examples: gas, electric, cable TV, or telephone bill).
